Although I could not attend the Damascus conference in the end (but my colleague Zsolt did) we Hungarians are all the more "involved" in this matter as we are practically the only foreign team who never ever left Syria and kept working there (just in the year 2016 we did three fieldwork seasons with dozens of Hungarian colleagues and students). Somehow we did not feel that after the 15th of March 2011 our Syrian colleagues, students, workers and all our hundreds of Syrian friends became enemies of humanity just because they lived in the territory controlled by the government or temporarily lost for rather fundamentalist forces. So are we savages just because we did not change and stood beside our Syrian friends and coleagues and the monuments we were working on for more than two decades? And what is the opinion of Mr. Lebeau of the fact that in May 2016 the European Union avarded me the "European Citizen Prize" for having kept helping in Syria and our sites in spite of all difficulties and dangers? ...
